Quick Connect FAQ's
Complete installation instructions
are included in every COPRO™ package. For your convenience, COPRO™ specialists
answer some common questions below:
Select a Category:
Materials:
Q: What material are COPRO™ fittings
made of?
A: The fittings are a forged brass (ASTM B-283), the gripping ring is made
of 316 stainless steel, and the o-ring is EPDM pre-lubed with an NSF-61 approved
lubricant.
Joining Tubing:
Q: Do I need to prep the ends
differently than a solder joint?
A: As with sweat copper fittings, the tube must be chamfered, deburred and
reamed. COPRO™ recommends the Titan Supply Prep Tool to chamfer, deburr and
ream tube ends. These steps are essential to ensure the proper connection of
your COPRO™ push-to-connect system. Also, be sure to draw an inspector's mark
on the tube to let the installer know when the tube has been inserted far enough.
Q: What types of tubing can COPRO™ be
used on?
A: COPRO™ is ideal for use with copper and stainless steel. Consult factory
for use with CPVC and PEX.
Installing,
Testing and Flushing Your COPRO™ System:
Q: What have COPRO™ fittings
been tested to?
A: COPRO™ fittings have been tested to 900 psi at 200 °F, giving it a safety
factor of over 4 to 1. The burst pressure is over 1,500 psi.
Q: What support hanger spacing must
I use with my COPRO™ System?
A: Support is identical to a sweat system and should adhere to local codes.
Always fully support heavy loads on your COPRO™ System.
Q: How do I test my COPRO™ System?
A: Pressure-test the same as you would with a copper sweat system. Normal testing
at 1 ˝ times is permitted even up to 300 psi.
Q: Do I need to lubricate the joint
when installing?
A: No. Engineered seals come factory-lubricated with an NSF-61 approved lubricant.
Q: Do I still have to flush my system?
A: Yes, but the system will be cleaner and faster to flush since there is no
solder or flux.
Q: Is testing of my COPRO™ System
the same as testing a copper system?
A: Yes, COPRO™ is tested the same way as a sweat copper system.
Adapting Your
COPRO™ System to Other Systems:
Q: Are valves and specialty items available for my COPRO™ push-to-connect
System?
A: Yes, please see our product catalog for more information.
Q: Can I use my own valves?
A: Yes, with two COPRO™ male threaded connectors.
Q: Can my COPRO™ System connect with
existing threaded systems?
A: Yes, with the use of a COPRO™ male threaded connector.
Q: Can I solder directly into a COPRO™ push-to-connect
fitting or valve?
A: No
COPRO™ Standards
and Approvals:
Q: Is the COPRO™ System
NSF-61 approved?
A: Yes.
Q: What approvals does COPRO™ have?
A: Manufactured by the world’s originator and largest producer of push-to-connect
fittings, COPRO™ is certified to NSF-61. Additional certifications include:
British: BS EN 1294/BS 864 Part 2: Copper and copper alloys: Copper fittings,
British: WRAS approval, Netherlands: NF-EN 1254-1, German: DVGW GW 8.
COPRO™ Uses and
Restrictions:
Q: Are “pressure drops” and “friction
loss” the same for a COPRO™ System and a copper sweat system?
A: COPRO™ fittings are full bore fittings offering superior flow characteristics.
The pressure drops and friction loss are very similar to sweat copper fittings.
Q: Can I rotate my COPRO™ push-to-connect
fittings?
A: Yes, the fittings can be rotated 360 degrees while the system is not under
pressure.
Q: Can my COPRO™ System be installed
on wet or dry tube?
A: Yes. COPRO™ fittings install on wet or dry tube. However, you should always
depressurize your system before installing COPRO™ products.
COPRO™ Temperature
and Pressure Ratings:
Q: What working temperature/pressure
is the COPRO™ System rated for?
A: 180 °F and 200 PSI
